360°kids is a vitally important community agency serving all of York Region. We have been a leader in the delivery of innovative support services for more than 35 years as we work to improve the lives of unhoused and marginalized youth and families in York Region. At 360°kids, we provide a unique continuum of care approach with programs and services that are essential to the health and well-being of youth. These proven strategies help to keep youth safe by providing stable housing options with 360° wraparound supports.

The CSJ Employment Counsellor’s role is to provide support through pre-employment counselling and employment placement opportunities to higher needs youth across York Region. 

This is 8 week contract Funded by Canada summer Jobs

Job Description:
  • Assist staff with supporting youth in building employment/employability skills including (but not limited to): job search and interview techniques, resume preparation, career exploration, budgeting, time management, and soft skills such as communication, problem solving, self-care/awareness, stress management and leadership.
  • Assist youth to access community programs and provide resources, counseling, referrals, and advocacy services within their community.
  • Relationship building and assessment of youth to ensure successful job matching.
  • Act as a positive role model, mentor, and support for youth as they learn new skills.
  • Update and maintain records/activities and case notes.
  • In the event of a crisis or critical incident, immediately reports to appropriate level.
  • Marketing, outreach, and promotion of program to employers and community.
  • Research and cold calling to obtain job leads and community information.
  • Represents the organization and program as required with various aspects of the community including agency partners, employers, donors, coworkers, volunteers, schools, clients, and family members.
  • Participate in the program intake process.
  • Work alongside our Employment Programs team to ensure job opportunities reflect youth needs, abilities, employment goals, and overall suitability.
  • Update and maintain records/activities and case notes.
  • Maintain active and effective communication with their Team Lead.
  • Report on a regular basis to Team Lead regarding issues of need and/or concern.
  • Follows appropriate policies and procedures of 360°kids. Ensures that the program operates in line with 360°kids’ mission, vision and values and activities comply with applicable standards and laws.
  • Other duties as required.

Education & Skills Required:
  • In process or completion of post-secondary degree/diploma in a mental health/social services field of study (e.g. Addictions and Mental Health, Social Worker, Social Service Worker, Psychology)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification. Current police services Broad Sector Check (Criminal background check).
  • Experience working with “at-risk” or street involved youth/youth with mental health/addictions barriers an asset.
  • Knowledge of the job market and the Employment Standards Act an asset
  • Exceptional relationship building skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
  • Motivated, has a strong work ethic, empathetic, and must be able to work with a team.
  • Demonstrated client focused counselling skills and role modelling.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to be adaptable with a flexible approach taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that promote positive team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Working knowledge of York Region services an asset.

In order to be eligible, participants must:
  • Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the funded position.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
  • Have a valid SIN  
  • International students, and those who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible for the program.
